String theory: reinventing a very old wheel

String theory may not be the answer to all questions, and it is certainly not the final revelation of science, but it may the clearest glimpse into underlying structure of the world that science has ever dared to present, and it is a glimpse that blurs the line between science and mysticism.

String theory justifies itself with an elegant set of mathematical equations, but in the end the equations point to a paradox, and in order to get past that paradox scientist should come to terms with the fact that mathematics has its limitations, and at best can only trace out a small fragment of the absolute. As far as I can tell, scientist haven't really come to terms with the paradox, at least mainstream science hasn't, and alas we reinvent the wheel.
Blurring the line between art and engineering

I stumbled across this video months ago. It's good stuff. Very inspiring. Imagine what we could do as a species if we were to put our greatest minds to work developing ideas like this rather than figuring out more efficient ways of killing each other.

Beyond Religion

If the truth is spoken by a liar, it is no less true. Rejecting reality based on our distaste for the messenger that presents it to us is almost as foolish as accepting a lie based on the merits of the great philosopher or saint that spoke it.

Religion is the opiate of the masses, but the spirit of religion hides in hard to see places. Science is a religion, atheism is a religion, even new age spirituality can be a religion. So what is religion anyway? The answer behind that question holds the key to true freedom.

If you look religion up in a dictionary you'll find a wide range of definitions. I took the time to look the word up myself before writing this article, but I found no dictionary that pointed out what I see to be the real core of religion. Hence, I am left with no choice but to create my own definition.
